Timmel Orosenn was the Primogenitrix[1] of the island of Umryg. She was extremely tall, with long midnight-black hair and almond shaped, golden-hazel eyes.[2][3][4] She had an inhumanly long head with a broad tall brow and long heavy jaw that she usually covered with a veil.[5][6] Her family lineage granted her healing abilities that knitted even severe wounds in moments.[7] She was a kind and empathetic woman.

In Return of the Crimson Guard[]

The Primogenitrix was awoken during the night to be told that twenty Crimson Guard mercenaries were finally breaking free of the tomb that they had been imprisoned in decades earlier. Hired by her sister to help usurp Timmel's rule, the Guard had been trapped in the tomb by Timmel and her Circlet of thaumaturgs instead. Only Timmel and her principal thaumaturge, T'enet, survived the original entombing effort.[5] When the Guard broke free, they faced the nation's entire army and its mages. One of the Guardsmen spoke to Timmel, but the only word she understood was "Jaghut". After this she allowed the Guard members to escape with minimal opposition, ordering a ship to be prepared for them. Timmel ruminated on how there must be a place where ancient truths are remembered, which was dangerous for her kind.[5]

In Assail[]

Suspecting Malazan plotting in Assail, Timmel Orosenn hired Tyvar Gendarian and the Blue Shields on the Resolute to accompany her to meet Cartharon Crust on his way to the continent's gold fields.[8] Timmel and her servant, Velmar travelled on their own ship, the Supplicant. Timmel kept her Jaghut heritage a secret, travelling with a veil, headscarf, and flowing robes, and avoided the use of most magic.[9] She was forced to reveal herself when their flotilla was ensnared by the fell magics of the Dread Sea."[10]

Thereafter, she removed her disguise and walked openly as a woman of Jaghut descent, defending the fleet against the sorceress, Mist, and her monstrous sons.[11] Arriving at the settlement of Mantle, Timmel helped defend the town against the Kerluhm T'lan Imass, who were intent on slaying all beings with Jaghut blood. Velmar died protecting his mistress and she was sorely wounded.[12] Faced by the impending arrival of a titanic Jaghut icewall, Timmel convinced Tyvar to lead an evacuation of the town sparing several thousand lives.[13]

It was revealed that Timmel was an ancient being, returning home to Assail after a long time away. After she recovered from her injuries she planned to visit her mother, the Jaghut matriarch, in the Salt Mountains.[14]
