Prime Master Surin was the head of the Circle of Masters, who collectively ruled the Thaumaturgs.[1][2] Master Surin was described as tall and straight, despite his age[3] and still taught classes for the Thaumaturgs, with Pon-lor recalling a dissection during a lecture of his, where Surin called the eye a "miracle of adaptation".[4] According to Surin, the lines of power in the Himatan were disturbed.[5]
In Blood and Bone[]
Master Surin was able to communicate with Commander Golan who was leading a Thaumaturg army to Jakal Viharn and checked up on him on a number of occasions, in the first revealing that the masters themselves were following in Golan's path[5] while later revealing that the purpose of Golan's advance was to distract from the actions of the Masters themselves.[6] Surin claimed that it was the sacred trust of the Thaumaturgs to destroy Kallor before he fought Pon-lor whom he almost overpowered, crushing his rib cage about his heart with magic until Hanu stepped in, distracting then beheading Surin with his yataghan.[3]
Trivia[]
Surin's favourite anaesthetic was made from a (poisonous) plant called Ardata's Cup.[4]
