Selv was Keneb's wife and the mother of Kesen and Vaneb.[1] She was a younger and thinner version of her sister Minala.[2] She apparently came of noble stock as her family owned an estate on Quon Tali.[3]
In Deadhouse Gates[]
Selv's family was forced to evacuate the Malazan garrison at Orbal in the face of the Seven Cities Rebellion. The column of retreating families and their military escort was struck by an Army of the Apocalypse as it marched south. Their lives were spared by the unexpected arrival of Kalam Mekhar, who rescued the family from bandits, then escorted them to safety in Aren.[4][5]
Before the uprising, it was Selv who discovered that Minala was being beaten by her husband Colonel Tras. She informed Keneb, but before the captain could intervene the garrison was betrayed by the Whirlwind Legion.[6]
In The Bonehunters[]
Keneb mentioned that Selv had returned to the safety of her family estate on Quon Tali with Kesen and Vaneb. The couple had grown apart during his two years of garrison duty before the rebellion and only the need to survive had momentarily brought them back together during the violent uprising. Keneb suspected she did not miss him and that she had found a new man in her life away from him.[3] According to Fiddler, Selv had set Keneb aside for the Untan noble, Exent Hadar.[7]
