Prevost Razala was a cavalry captain and commander of the mounted heavies in the Marchland Sentries during the Malazan civil war. She was described as "slim, her brown hair hacked short. The scar of a sword cut drew her lips down into a permanent frown." She spoke with a hoarse voice.[1]
In Return of the Crimson Guard[]
Razala accompanied the Marchland Sentries when they fought for the Talian League during the Malazan civil war. Initially sent to pillage, burn, and harry Malazan possessions south of Li Heng, the Sentries became the defacto bodyguards for the League's noble figurehead Ghelel Rhik Tayliin.[2]
Once Empress Laseen arrived at Li Heng with the Malaz 4th Army, Sentries commander Jhardin determined it was time to withdraw. Ghelel urged the Sentries to ride to the League's aid. Razala strongly agreed with the idea, but chose to obey her orders.[3]
After the Talian League was defeated by the Malazans at the Battle of the Plains, Jhardin decided to hold Ghelel prisoner. He planned to return with her to his Talian estates and marry her despite already having a wife. This way, the Tayliin line would be preserved and their children might perhaps press their claim again. Ghelel's bodyguard Molk helped her flee the camp, and reported the Marchland Sentries' position to Commander Pirim 'J Shall's Malazan-allied Kanese troops.[4]
