Pride was a soldier in the Letherii Army under the command of Brys Beddict. Pride was born an Awl, but was taken in a raid and was then raised by a family in Drene, an annexed territory of the Letherii Empire.

Brys Beddict, in the process of collecting as much information about the Wastelands as he could,[1] learned from Pride, who although he had been a child when he was taken from his birth family, had still been old enough to recall some Awl legends. Pride remembered some tales that dealt with an ancient war, over land ownership, between the Awl and an army of 'demons' (as Pride called them), whose description--huge lizard-like creatures who could run at great speed on two legs--sounded very much like K'Chain Che'Malle, who were known to have settled in the Wastelands east of Lether in the distant past.[2]
