Othun Dela Farat was an explorer and map-maker, who lived at about the time the Malazan Empire was being founded a century ago.[1] He had a reputation for producing reliable maps etched on parchment which contained detailed notes along their borders.[1]
In The Bonehunters[]
The witch, Samar Dev of Ugarat, owned at least one map etched by Othun Dela Farat. Karsa Orlong was particularly interested in a map that depicted Sepik and a vast expanse of land that occupied the territory to the far west and far north of the Seven Cities sub-continent as he wished to travel in that direction.[1]
Quote[]
- "Difficult to cross. The bedrock is exposed there, badly folded, pocked with lakes and only a few, mostly impassable rivers. The forest is spruce, fir, and pine, with low-lying thickets in the basins."
- ―words written by Othun Dela Farat along a border of a map he had drawn, which was of interest to Karsa Orlong
