The Nightblades were a group of assassins that served as a hidden companion order to the Sword-Dancers who guarded the kings of Itko Kan.[1] Many speculated that they were all sorcerers or mages because of their rare skills and abilities, but in reality their accomplishments came from plain grueling training.[2]

Appearance[]

The Nightblades wore dark black clothes that seemed to shift and blur. Their head was wrapped in black gauze with thin slits for eyes. Some of them wore cowls.[1]

Organisation[]

The Nightblades were organized into flights. Presumably, a flight contained four members[3][4], one of which was the head.[5] It was intimated that there were roughly a total of over one hundred Nightblades. Only one of them was the master, and this person was their leader.[6]

Operating Procedures[]

According to Faruj, Nightblades never worked alone. They always worked either along their team in flights, or as pairs.[5]

Weapons[]

The Nightblades used long thin blades hidden in their sleeves as their weapon of choice. These blades were blued to remove the glimmer and avoid detection.[1]

They were equipped with crossbows and these were used frequently in ranged fights.[5]

In Dancer's Lament[]

The Nightblades of Itko Kan, under direct orders of their king Chulalorn the Third, infiltrated the city of Li Heng and were able to take over the rooftops because no assassin organization existed in Heng.

The Nightblades were bloodily beaten back when they encountered the city mages Silk and Hothalar, and several were also killed by the young assassin Dorin Rav.

The assassins were responsible for an assassination attempt on the Protectress Shalmanat herself, though their attempt failed when the flight of four assassins was scorched by Thyrllan sorcery by Shalmanat herself.
