Nifty Gum was a poet, singer, and three time winner of The Century's Greatest Artist at the Farrog Festival of Flowers and Sunny Days. He traveled with an entourage of three young female admirers, Sellup, Oggle Gush, and Pampera, who clung to him around the campfire. Only recently he had had as many as six hundred and fifty-four followers, but they had all been lost in a barge accident.[1]

Poet Avas Didion Flicker thought Nifty had an ample helping of talent fanned by his talent for self promotion. He was renowned for being renowned.[2]

Nifty "looked taller than he looked", wearing his clothing and striding as if he were a bigger man. The sum of his face was more attractive than the parts and he had a thick cascade of auburn curls, which he often twirled.[3] He usually wore knee-high moccasins or polished boots.[4]

In Crack'd Pot Trail[]

Nifty and his entourage of three traveled on the Cracked Pot Trail across the Great Dry in order to attend The Century's Greatest Artist competition in Farrog. When the caravan ran out of food, the other well armed travelers decided their "useless" artistic companions would be more useful as meals. Every night Nifty and the others performed in competition for the right to live another day.[5] After Sellup was killed in a display of Tiny Chanter's necromantic magic, Nifty, Oggle, and Pampera went off on their own. The starving Nifty and Pampera soon set upon Oggle, strangling her, and feeding off her body even as she was not completely dead. Afterwards, perhaps feeling guilty, Pampera turned on Nifty, taking a bite out of his shoulder and calf. He responded by biting through her jugular vein, killing her. The caravan's hunter Steck Marynd tracked Nifty down and brought him back to the main camp. There Nifty was beset by Sellup, now undead and decaying and happy to have him all to herself. When he asked for someone to "end it", Mortal Sword Tulgord Vise mistook it for a plea to end his own life and so he stabbed Nifty through the chest. Sellup consumed Nifty's heart and followed the caravan holding Nifty's head, working it like a puppet.[6]
