Eustan Moss was a captain in the Talian League and a Malazan veteran of the Genabackis Campaign.[1] He had a scar running from his left temple across his nose to his right cheek. His weapons of choice were twin ivory-gripped sabres. He wore studded leather armour, a blackened iron helmet, and a long mailed skirt.[2][3]

In Return of the Crimson Guard[]

Moss was Toc the Elder's aide in the League undertaking critical missions and delivering orders at Toc's command. He found and interviewed the Seti prophet Wildman to determine his intentions. He also helped arrange a meeting between the League and the Crimson Guard.[4][5]

When the Seti leader, Imotan, betrayed the Malazan forces under the Old Guard at the Battle of the Plains, Moss was ordered by Toc to go back to Urko. He later returned to find Toc mortally wounded by the Seti, and made no attempt to help him. Instead he revealed that while he admired Toc he actually worked as a freelancer for Empress Laseen, tying up loose ends for her.[6]

Moss then joined the staff of Ullen Khadeve, the joint Commander of Laseen's forces fighting the Crimson Guard. Alongside Ullen, he witnessed the clash between Skinner and his Disavowed, and Dassem Ultor and the remnants of his First Sword. Moss was then unable to prevent Ullen's assassination, possibly at the hands of the Veil assassin, Isha, though he did appear to slay the assassin.[7]

After the uprising had been suppressed, Moss was last seen following the trail of Ghelel, the figurehead of the rebellion who had escaped during the fighting.[8]
