Grave

Brother Grave was a Forkrul Assail Pure, one of the Lawful Inquisitors.

He had a thin voice.

In The Crippled God

Grave was part of the Kolanse army opposing Adjunct Tavore's army and alongside Sister Freedom commanded twenty thousand Kolanse infantry which were positioned ten leagues to the west of where Sister Reverence and Brother Diligence were positioned. They were supported by Brother Aloft and his fifteen thousand Shriven auxiliaries.

The unknown intentions of a small enemy force of about a hundred greatly concerned Freedom greatly and the three commanders decided that Grave would personally lead his light and medium infantry, which numbered about two thousand, to skirt the larger enemy force opposite them to the south-west, whilst his more numerous heavy infantry would take the shorter northwest route around them, enabling Grave's merged-again units to then strike the smaller enemy force from behind. Grave was of the opinion that even if the merger did not happen, his two thousand alone would be totally sufficient to overpower the enemy and shrugged off that the other two thought him overconfident. Freedom announced that she would seek to enslave the larger force but conceded that Grave should be allowed to kill the ones he was about to hunt.

When Grave and his two thousand caught up with the small enemy force, they found them at an Elan barrow. Grave dismissed the suggestion by High Watered Haggraf, to wait for their re-enforcements. He told he commander that they would form up and attack the small hill before dawn.

Not long into the battle, Grave attacked the small force with his voice but was rendered ineffective by the intervention of D'rek. He watched in shock as his forces were being decimated by alchemical munitions and called a temporary retreat.

Before being able to resume the attack, Grave was killed by Kalam Mekhar after being flung backwards into the assassin's twin blades by Quick Ben.
