South Genabackis

South Genabackis

The Confederacy of Free Cities, also known as the Southern Confederacy of Free Cities, was a loosely organized grouping of pirate city-states on Genabackis's southeastern peninsula.[1][2]

In Return of the Crimson Guard[]

Confederate slaver captain Hesalt recovered eleven stranded Crimson Guardsmen, including Iron Bars, from a wreck floundering in the southern Rust Ocean.[3]

In Orb Sceptre Throne[]

Wreckers and pirates from the Confederacy descended on the remains of the Tiste Andii fortress Moon's Spawn after it crashed into the Rivan Sea and created a small chain of islands known as the Spawns. The pirates seized control of the nearby fishing village of Hurly, which was depopulated by tidal waves after the mountain's fall, and put restrictions on all shipping traffic in the area. They charged tariffs and transport fees to those treasure-hunters seeking to make their fortune in the ruins and defended their monopoly against four separate armed challenges.[4]

Confederacy slavers were a bane to the coastal populations of eastern Genabackis near Coral. Fist Argell Steppen, leading portions of Second, Fifth, and Sixth Malazan Armies, was put in charge of the area's defense and fought several skirmishes with the Confederacy. She based her forces at a new fortress built near the headwaters of the River Eryn.[5]

In Assail[]

Pirate captain Burl Tardin left the Confederacy on his vessel, the Sea Strike, to follow rumors of a gold strike in northern Assail.[6]

Another Confederacy pirate, Enguf the Broad, joined an alliance of foreigners dedicated to exploiting the gold fields.[7]
