Azra Jael was a marine in Onearm's Host, part of the third company of marines in the Eleventh squad, fifth cohort. He was dark-skinned and spoke broken Daru. His armour was worn but superbly crafted, and his helmet was made of Aren steel with a Napan camail.
No longer considering himself one of the Grey Swords, Itkovian decided to get rid of all the trappings of his former rank and exchanged his ornate helm with the marine. Azra felt almost embarrassed by the uneven trade and offered to return the helm without a harsh word if asked.
After Itkovian's sacrifice at the Siege of Coral, Azra tried to return the helm wishing to add it to the Shield Anvil's barrow, but Velbara, the new Destriant of the Grey Swords, refused saying that Itkovian would have done so himself. However it soon became evident that all the Malazan soldiers, the White Face Barghast, and even the T'lan Imass wished to show their respect by gifting personal items. Azra was thus allowed to give his helmet and it was one of a great many gifts.
