Ay Estos was a Soletaken Bonecaster of the Logros T'lan Imass. He was taller and leaner than the others of his kind[1] and wore a headdress made from the skull and hide of a slim and lean arctic wolf.[2] The remaining fur of his wolf hide wrap was a dirty grey and white.[1][2]

In Memories of Ice[]

Ay Estos was one of only two Logros Bonecasters to respond to Silverfox's summoning to the Second Gathering north of Capustan. The other was Olar Ethil, first among the Bonecasters and the first Soletaken. Ay explained to Silverfox that some of the Logros had broken from their Vow and committed criminal acts. The other Logros Bonecasters hunted these renegades.[1]

In House of Chains[]

While pursuing The Unbound with Trull Sengar, Onrack T'emlava became sure that one of the renegades was a Bonecaster. He ran through the names of Logros Bonecasters in an attempt to determine who it might be. Ay Estos was one of three he considered most likely, along with Absin Tholai and Tenag Ilbaie, as the Bonecaster had disappeared on the Jhag Odhan in the last Jaghut War.[3]

In Kellanved's Reach[]

Kellanved and Dancer, in search of the First Throne, followed the path indicated by a stone artifact through a gate in Shadow to the Place of the Blooming Ice in the Warren of Tellann. There they found the Throne in a cavern on an island, but were shocked to discover the feared Witch Jadeen already seated upon it.[4] After Dancer attempted to strike her with a throwing knife, she summoned five warriors from the Army of Dust and Bone from the ground around her. The Bonecaster, Tem Benasto, introduced himself and the others--Ay Estos, Ulpan Nodosha, Tenag Ilbaie, and Onos T'oolan--as the Logros guardians tasked with protecting the Throne. The Witch soon put a stop to the pleasantries and ordered Onos to slay the two intruders. But when the T'lan Imass drew his sword, it found the witch's neck, decapitating her and sending her body tumbling from the Throne. Onos declared her unworthy before Kellanved stepped forward to claim the Throne himself.[5]

Kellanved sat and Ay Estos and the other T'lan Imass bowed before him as they considered whether he was worthy. When Tem asked the mage for his orders, Kellanved had none but for them to continue with whatever they had already been doing. The T'lan Imass were pleased and departed to search for their brothers and sisters. Onos told Kellanved they would return at his call. Afterwards, the mage theorised that those who sat on the Throne required the T'lan Imass' permission and could not issue just any command they desired.[6]
